Use precautions
It is very difficult to protect your car against a very experienced thief, but most thefts could be prevented with simple precaution measures.
When leaving the car lock the doors and hatches, install wheel or pedal lock and switch on the alarm system. Do it even if you leave just for a few minutes. An experienced thief needs only a few seconds to enter a vehicle.
How to protect your vehicle?
- Immobiliser is the best method for preventing theft.
- Wheel lock makes manoeuvring the car impossible.
- The stick placed around the gear stick blocks it when locked.
- Markings on glass decrease the risk of theft. The car number is impressed on the windows, which cannot be removed without leaving traces.
- Datadot is a new high-tech identification code. 5,000 - 10,000 unique micro points which contain a number combination is marked on different parts of the car. The code is entered into a database. The points glow in ultraviolet light, thanks to that it is easy to find the Datadot-point of the vehicle, read information from that and identify the car as well as the owner.
- GPS-device (Global Positioning System) allows locating the vehicle with the precision of a couple of meters in case of theft of the vehicle, in case of breaking in the device sends an alarm signal to the control centre of the security company.
What should you do if your car has been stolen?
- If your car has been stolen or broken into, contact the police immediately.
- Do not enter into a garage which seems to be broken into or touch the doors of the car the windows of which have been broken.
- Do not step in the area where the car stood before its theft.
- Notify If Eesti Kindlustus immediately of theft or burglary.
